כָּמַן (cmp. כָּמַר) [to be heated in the ground,] to be hidden, lie in wait. *. - כִּמֵּןto hide fruits in the ground. Maasr. IV, 1 המְכַמֵּן Mish. a. Bab. ed. (Ms. M. המכמיר, Y. ed. המכמר, v. כָּמַר). Hif. - הִכְמִיןto keep witnesses hidden, a proceeding applied only against seducers to idolatry (v. מֵסִית). Snh. VII, 10 מַכְמִינִין לו עדים וכ׳ the court puts witnesses in wait for him behind an enclosure. Y. Yeb. XVI, 15ᵈ bot.; a. e.—Y. Snh. VIII, 21ᶜ top המַכְמִין עדיו וכ׳ he who keeps witnesses hidden (while eliciting a confession of indebtedness from his debtor), has done nothing, i.e. the confession has no legal consequences.
