הַפְלָאָה f. (פָּלָא) 1) distinction, peculiarity, use of the word פלא. Sabb. 138ᵇ ה׳ זו וכ׳ this peculiarity of punishment (Deut. XXVIII, 59) &c.; ה׳ זו תורה it means the Law (afflictions causing the Law to be forgotten, ref. to Is. XXIX, 14). —2) distinct and solemn specification of a vow (from Lev. XXVII, 2; Num. VI, 2; v. אִיסְפְּלִיאָה). Tosef. Naz. III, 19 לא ניתנה נזירות אלא לה׳ the law of the nazir’s vow applies only to distinct utterance (where there is no doubt); Naz. 34ᵃ; a. e.—Ib. 62ᵃ of the two ki yafli (Lev. l. c. Num. l. c.) אחד ה׳ לאיסור ואחד ה׳ וכ׳ one intimates a distinct binding expression, and one a distinctness which opens the way to absolution (v. הֲָטָה); Ḥag. 10ᵃ אחת ה׳ וכ׳.
