דַּלּוּת f. (דלל) 1) poverty. Midr. Prov. ch. XXII; a. fr.—בד׳ in poverty, i.e. sacrifice of poverty (birds), opp. בעשירות lambs, goats &c.; בדַלֵּי ד׳ the sacrifice of extreme poverty (flour). Kerith. 10ᵇ. Hor. 9ᵃ (v. Ms. M. a. l.). Kerith. l. c. עֲלֵיה דְדַלּוּת upon the person coming under the category of dalluth; עליה דדלי דלות upon the person coming under the category of extreme dalluth. Y. Hor. II, 46ᵈ (ref. to Lev. XIV, 21) מי שהוא ראוי לבוא לידי ד׳ only he who may possibly come under the category &c. (Bab. ib. l. c. בא לידי עניות).— *2) vacillation. Yoma 9ᵇ (ref. to דלת, Cant. VIII, 9) שעליתם בד׳ (Ms. M. 2) that ye left the Babylonian captivity with vacillation, opp. to כחומה, ‘as a wall’, i.e. all combined and firm; (Ms. Ms. 1 שעשיתם עצמיכם כדלת, ed. שעליתם כדלתות; Ar. ed. pr. s. v. סממגור quotes בדַלְדַּלּוּת, Ms. Koh. בדלי דלות; Yalk. Cant. 994 Ms. בדלי דלות).
