בָּאוָת f. (בּיּת; cmp. Lat. noctua) 1) night-bird, owl (for תִּנְשֶׁמֶת Lev. XI, 18). Ḥull. 63ᵃ בא׳ שבעופות (Ar. בואת) the bavath among the birds. —2) groper in the dark, mole or salamander (for תנשמת Lev. XI, 30). Ib. ב׳ שבשרצים the bavath among the reptiles. [Targ.
